iem TECH news: Vision-guided robotics used in process development
A current automated packaging project at Isthmus requires the use of vision-guided robotics to handle a customer’s product. This development cell was assembled to demonstrate what was an otherwise new technology to the customer.
Product, randomly presented to a machine vision system, is located part-by-part, oriented, and placed in a fixture for downstream operations. Additionally, the vision system performs an inspection to identify non-conforming parts as rejects.
Features of the system include a high-speed 5-axis robot, stationary vision camera, and custom end effector designed to handle product at a rate of 40-120 per minute.
