This multi-stage indexing system assembles medical components.
The first assembly section delivers soft plastic tubes and hard plastic end-caps to indexing fixtures from vibratory bowls. The parts are press-fit together and ultrasonically welded. Subsequent inspections verify o-ring presence, proper air flow, and pull test integrity. Completed sub-assemblies are robotically transferred to the next stage.
The next process incorporates an over/under web (plastic film) handling system. The sub-assemblies are indexed on 4-up fixtures which support the ends only. The plastic film travels over the top and bottom of the tubes in each fixture, and is sealed with heat bands, to form the side walls. The film is then ultrasonically welded onto each plastic housing. The fixture is then indexed through a slitting station, separating the product into four (4) individual parts. The parts are robotically transferred to the final stage.
The final process indexes parts in 2-up fixtures through forming and inspection stations. Precision located hot air knives prepare the material for cam-actuated tube bending. The parts are then pressure-tested for leaks and released from the tooling for bulk packing.
